Hi Rob! It is white, cisgender, male, heterosexual Republicans who are the groomers you should be worried about. They are the ones trying to legislate grooming by lowering the legal age of marriage.

These Republicans are literally trying to make grooming legal through legislation.

When it comes to grooming, our transgender siblings are not a threat. The biggest threat is cisgender, heterosexual, white, male Republicans who are trying to legislate it.

If you really care about this topic, stop scapegoating our transgender siblings and work against those Republicans who are the only ones trying to make grooming legal

Did you know that one of the great heroes of the Bible dressed in drag?

His name is Joseph and you can read about him in the book of Genesis.

Joseph wore a "ketonet passim."

It's often known as a "coat of many colors," but it basically refers to a ling robe with sleeves.

According to 2 Samuel 13, a ketonet passim was a long sleeved robe worn by princesses.

Joseph wore a robe that was for a princess.

And his brothers hated Joseph, in part because he dressed indrag by wearing a ketonet passim.

Joseph's brothers are the bad guys in the story.

Christians against dressing in drag are acting like Joseph's brothers, the bad guys in the story.

The point is to not be the bad guy.

If we are going to start banning books based on violence and sexuality, the first book we should ban is the Bible.

The Bible is full of violence and sex.

It even has a man named Joseph who dresses in clothes made for a princess.

So if you're going to start banning books, the first book you need to ban is the Bible.

Why Women Should Be Leaders of the Church Part 4: Priscilla

Did you know that Paul affirmed women leaders of the early church?

Yes. And one such leader was named Priscilla.

Priscilla was an important leader of the early church. Romans 16 yells us that Priscilla worked closely with Paul "in Christ."

Paul and Priscilla worked together to teach people about Christ and how to be in Christ.

But we have even more about Priscilla. In Acts 18, man named Apollos was teaching in churches. Priscilla and Aquila took him aside and taught him about Jesus.

Priscilla was a teacher of the ancient church. She even taught men.

Paul affirmed her status as a leader of the church.

Paul affirmed women leaders of the church.

We should, too.

The first person to preach about the resurrection - the most important event in Christian history - was a woman named Mary.

Mary proclaimed the resurrection to a bunch of men.

Hooray for Mary and all the women like her.

Many struggle with Leviticus 18 and 20. They seem

Many struggle with Leviticus 18 and 20. They seem so straightforward, but they are not.

In fact, those passages are not talking about same sex committed relationships based on love and mutual respect.

Leviticus is talking about something different from our understanding of same sex relationships.

Leviticus 18 and its counterpart in chapter 20 are found in Leviticus's Holiness Code.

This code is concerned with purity of worship within Isreal.

In both chapters it refers to this same sex act as an abomination.

The Hebrew word for abomination within the Books of the Law (first 5 books of the Bible) always refers to ritual impurity - aka, not worshipping correctly.

What these passages refer to are temple prostitution. In other religions of the time, there were male temple prostitutes who had sex with male worshippers. These men would then go back home to their wives.

Leviticus says those sex acts are an abomination when it comes to worship in Israel.

But Leviticus does not talk about same sex committed loving relationships.

Why Women Should Be Leaders in the Church: Part 3 - Junia Was a Woman and an Apostle

Many claim women should not lead churches because they were not apostles in the New Testament.

Some claim that according to the New Testament only apostles were given the authority to preach and only men could be apostles.

This is false. Women were apostles in the early Christian church.

In Romans 16, Paul tells the church in Rome to "Greet Andonicus and Junia... they are prominent among the apostles."

Junia was a woman.

Paul says she was an apostle and was prominent among them.

Early church theologians, including John Chrysostom - a Doctor of the Catholic Church, affirmed that Junia was a woman and that she was an apostle.

It wasn't until more than a thousand years later in the 1200s that a man decided Junia should not be a woman and so he decided to refer to Junia as a man.

But according to ancient manuscripts of Romans and ancient church theologians, Junia was a woman.

And Junia was an apostle.

The preaching authority was given to apostles.

Women were apostles.

Women can, and do, preach.

Thank God for that!

Why Women Should Be Leaders in Church Part 2

The Southern Baptist Convention says that women shouldn't preach or lead churches.

The Southern Baptist Convention is wrong.

The most important event in Christian history is the resurrection.

Do you know who was the very first person to proclaim Jesus' resurrection?

A woman named Mary.

In fact, the men were nowhere to be found on that morning of the resurrection. But do you know who was the star apostle that day?

Mary Magdalene.

Jesus sent Mary to go tell the men about his resurrection.

The word "apostle" means someone who is "sent." Jesus sent Mary on a mission to proclaim the resurrection to the men.

Mary was the Apostle to the apostles.

Because Jesus told her to tell the men.

And yet, 2,000 years later there are men going against Jesus by telling women they can't preach or lead churches.

Jesus calls people of all genders to preach and lead churches.

It's time we follow him.

Why Women Should Be Church Leaders: Part 1

The Southern Baptist Convention disfellowshiped 5 congregations from the SBC because they have female leadership.

The SBC justified their actions by saying they are holding to biblical values.

In this series I will explain why the SBC is wrong because the Bible affirms women leaders in the church.

But the SBC does not hold to "Biblical values."

For example, Jesus is very clear that if a man lusts after a woman, that he is to tear out his right eye and cut off his right hand.

After the clergy sexual abuse scandal in the SBC, there was no demand for men to follow Jesus' clear teachings fornd in the Bible.

That's because the SBC is picking and choosing Bible verses.

And it's choosing to pick and misinterpret Bible verses to silence women.

I will show in this series that the SBC is misguided and that the Bible affirms women leaders.

I hope the SBC repents and affirms people of all genders being gifted with skills for preaching, teaching and leading in churches.
